Over the last month or so, I have had the pleasure to work on the Epic new film by Director and award winning filmmaker Philip Stevens and Writer/Novelist Giles Kristian. Based 950 years ago, ‘The Last Viking’ traces Harald Hardrada’s last moments as he retells one final epic story to Odin – Lord of War and Poetry – before his soul can move on to what lies beyond.
Excellently shot by Director of Photography Stewart MacGregor, this was a very exciting challenge for a colourist; striking the correct balance between the mortal and the immortal realms, whilst rooting the exposition of the film in the visceral filth of the battlefield.
‘The Last Viking’ Colour Grading Breakdown ETA Sunday 2nd October 2016.
Additionally, I worked alongside the Director and DP to design the poster/banner for the film, which again, offered an exciting challenge to reproduce many of the core and somewhat subtle themes of the central narrative.
I have been given kind permission from the production team to produce a Breakdown of my process as both Colourist and Poster Designer for the project, which should appear over next week.
Please watch and support the film and please look out for my guides and breakdowns in the future.
